Namco Bandai's "NOBY NOBY BOY" for iPhone - Exclusive In-Depth Review

Author: TapDatApp // Category:

"NOBY NOBY BOY" is a game, originally on the PlayStation 3 Console (and much different from the iPhone version), from Keita Takahashi, the creator of the Katamari Damacy series, where you control and play around with a worm-like stretchy character referred to as "BOY". But unlike the PS3 version of Noby Noby Boy, the iPhone OS Version is not in 3D and is not an open world experience. Instead, you are given multiple tools in what appears to be some type of "toy box" that simulates an iPhone Springboard (Home Screen) like Experience except with your friend BOY hanging around all the time. The app takes advantage of the multiple features of the iPhone (isn't half as fun on an iTouch) to provide fun-like situations that help you manipulate your usage and boredom-filling time with BOY.

Noby Noby Boy for iPhone is really hard to judge. The only fair statement you can give about it is that "It's Weird" and that goes without question, but good weird? or bad weird?

Well I've played Noby Noby Boy for PS3 which is essentially more of a cool concept idea than an actual game, but it is definitely different and definitely weird. There are things I like about it, and other things that I don't. But overall, it's pretty interesting to say the least.

Noby Noby Boy for iPhone is also..."interesting". But it doesn't stay interesting for the amount of time the PS3 title does. And although it is not as frustrating as Noby Noby Boy for PS3 originally is, it feels very useless. Which would be fine...if it was constantly fun. The problem is even if you love the crazy concepts of Noby Noby Boy, the graphics are boring 2D and the features just simulate an iPhone springboard to act as a really strange toy box for some wacked up stuff. At first, some of these things can actually be cool to explore and play around with, like in Noby Noby Boy for PS3, but it gets very boring very fast and you realize it isn't an app you will play when you are bored, because it will only make you even more bored.

Considering how different & unique the app's concept is, it definitely peaks interest in people at first and is interesting to explore, but once you see all of what it can do, that's about it and you probably won't touch the app too many more times other than to show people "this crazy/cool app you got". Honestly, it would be a lot more enjoyable if it was 3D and more like the PS3 version. And to even appreciate it from the beginning, you really have to be open-minded and understand the quirkiness of this series. So unfortunately, for the general public, I'd have to say you should probably pass this app, but for
$1.99, we'll label it: Take A BET OR DON'T

Appload™ #7 - Riddim Ribbon, Hook Champ, Alley Gator, & MORE!!!

Author: TapDatApp // Category:

Presenting: Tap Dat App™ Appload™ #7

  • Riddim Ribbon is the long anticipated new release from Tapulous, creators of the extremely popular Tap Tap Revenge series. The game combines flashy colors, intense speed racing, and a concept similar to that of DJ Hero for a unique & fun experience. Although probably inspired by the computer game Audio Surf, Riddim Ribbon is actually quite a bit different and totally blows the TTR games out of the water as this is a lot more interactive. The controls are a little hard at first, but they aren't that hard to get used to...Also, the game actually only comes with 3 free songs (all by the Black Eyed Peas) as of right now, with 3 more songs (by other artists) available as In-App Purchases for $.99 each. While this may seem like a shortage of content for a game that costs $2.99, it's still definitely worth your money as it obviously has tons of potential and will be updated frequently in the future...GET
  • Hook Champ is an awesome 8-bit styled game that is so fun, you won't even care that the game avoids taking advantage of good graphics on the iPhone. Like Indiana Jones, you swing with a grappling hook in many different environments, trying to get your way out alive and with the treasure/idol. This game will have you coming back for more and more until you beat the whole thing, it's insanely addicting and simply one of the best games currently available on the iDevice platform. - GET for $2.99
  • Alley Gator, Glu Mobile's latest game, is a unique & fun game where you control an alligator trying to get out of the sewer! You tilt your iDevice to spin the alligator through the sewer pipes and avoid obstacles. This is one of the most creative games I've seen for the iDevice and it is also just generally really pleasing to look at with it's colorful 3D graphics. It will provide hours of fun with levels that will keep you playing just so that you can say you beat them all! - GET for $.99
  • Glow Hockey is an app that describes itself in the name. This version of Air Hockey runs perfectly and with Single Player, 2 Player, and Championship Modes, it's a lot of fun! Simple yet cool with it's glow-in-the-dark colors & overall design that was probably inspired from the Glow Hockey mini-game playable on Wii Play. - GET for $.99
  • iBlast Moki is another awesome app where you set up bombs to explode at the touch of a button, positioned to thrust your Moki characters forward, eventually leading to the End of Level portal. The game is totally unique, fun, and challenging! Plus there is an Online Create & Share Level Mode for extra fun! - GET for **Current Sale: $.99 - Normal: $2.99**
  • Guerrilla Bob is a really cool looking game that fails to actually be fun. You control a rebel and shoot people down with controls similar to Minigore and with 3D graphics. The graphic look & feel of this game is great...but the gameplay isn't. The game is for one: EXTREMELY CHALLENGING, HARD, & PRACTICALLY UNBEATABLE - When you die, no progress is saved and it really is "Game Over", you have to start back at the very first level. A lot of pre-release hype was built up around this game only to be disappoint people with a huge let down...FORGET for $2.99
  • Hot Dog Down a Hallway is a funny game that has basically the same gameplay aspects of Kitten Cannon (Original) but well...with a hot dog, that you throw down a hallway...LOL. The graphics are charming and it's simple & fun, Oh and not to mention: FREE - GET
That's it for now - we hope you enjoyed our Tap Dat App™ Appload™ #7! Keep Checking Back Often for New Posts!

The Apple iPad - The New 3rd iDevice - What It Means for the Future of the App World:

Author: TapDatApp // Category:

Well I'm sure this won't be the first time you've heard about it, but today Steve Jobs officially announced "The iPad", aimed at being "a cross between a computer and a smartphone". Although I have to honestly say it seems much more like a larger iPhone/iPod Touch than an actual computer, the device will most definitely revolutionize personal computing and entertainment systems. But how does this affect the App Store & the World of iDevices as we know it so far? With HD Capabilities, "iBook" Reading, the Ability to Download & Use Any Already Existing iPhone/iPod Touch App and Display It Much Larger + Exclusive iPad Apps, the system is definitely a huge step forward in the subject our whole website revolves around. The iPad means adding more personal experiences to the Apps we already know & love! Plus exploring new ones on a 9.7 inch LED-backlit touch screen with a 1024-by-768-pixel resolution. Basically, we expect that the iPad will for the most part give iDevices new meaning & some new purposes and not to mention a more in-depth way of using App Store Applications. With two models (WiFi/WiFi & 3G), the iPad comes in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB versions starting at a surprisingly low price of just $499. In a way, you could somewhat compare the new Apple iPad (which starts shipping in Late March/April) to the Nintendo DSi, which also gave new purpose to its original device and making it an even more useful and casual everyday piece of technology. The computer functions of the device may still need to be expanded on though as from what we know from the information that has already been announced/revealed, it gives off the feeling of essentially being a Giant, Fancier iPod Touch than a real cross between an iPhone & a Mac. But who's to say this isn't a good start? It's already giving the eBook Reader, "Kindle" a run for its money. So Here's to the Advancement & Future of the App Store & the 3 iDevices...HOORAY!

Appload™ #6 - N.O.V.A., James Cameron's AVATAR, Gangstar: West Coast Hustle, & MORE!!!

Author: TapDatApp // Category:

Hola...It's Time for Tap Dat App™ Appload #6!

  • James Cameron's Avatar by Gameloft is a game based off the hit movie. The game's story is technically a "prequel" as it uses different character names but the story is still essential the same as that of the film...Graphics are stunning, controls are functional, gameplay is passable & for the most part, easy. With all that being said, it's still a fun playthrough that you will spend some time beating and then possibly beating again under a different difficulty level, so especially if you're a fan of Avatar on the big screen...GET for $6.99
  • Gangstar: West Coast Hustle by Gameloft has been out for a little while and now faces rivalry from Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. Gangstar is still a big winner though: Full 3D Graphics, Huge Explorable City, Tons of Missions, Nice/Usable Controls. And although it's overall pretty easy, it's still a lot of fun and really addictive too. Not to mention that it is only half the price of GTA, at $4.99...GET
  • N.O.V.A. by Gameloft is the second real 3D FPS (first person shooter) to appear on the App Store, but for $6.99, you might ask why you should buy it when Eliminate (the other FPS) is FREE. Well, N.O.V.A. is different from Eliminate and resembles the Halo series a lot more...almost to the point where I feel like Gameloft could easily be sued for clearly copying the games. Also, N.O.V.A. includes a full story mode, unlike Eliminate. Overall, it's just a different experience and you can't really compare the two. It's fun, but at the same time, because it's so close to Halo, you feel this sickening feeling like you are just playing some second-rate knock-off throughout your time progressing through the game. But if you really like Eliminate, you will definitely like N.O.V.A. as well...GET
  • I Dig It Expeditions by InMotion Software, LLC is a fantastic sequel game which won an award at our 1st Annual Tap Dat App™ App Awards Ceremony 2009. It is a huge expansion to the first "I Dig It" by letting you explore different environments and new features, jewels, etc. The gameplay is great with hours and hours full of stuff to do that will keep bringing you back to Tapping that App™. At $2.99...GET
  • Sway by Illusion Labs is another fantastic 3D game which won an award for having the most innovative controls at our 1st Annual Tap Dat App™ App Awards Ceremony 2009. This game has tons of cute charm that reminds us of something seen in LittleBigPlanet for the PlayStation 3. It has tons of levels and characters to unlock as well. Very Well Done Overall...Easy GET for $4.99
  • Labyrinth 2 by Illusion Labs is an extremely fun puzzle-ish type game where you move your iDevice around trying to get a ball into the hole in the maze. Although this may sound simple, it gets more complicated with tons of different obstacles to spice up gameplay with slightly 3D graphics. AND, it has a fully functional level creator & downloader so the fun literally never has to end! GET for $4.99
  • SpringFling is a unique partially 3D game by Alex Schwartz that is similar to Doodle Jump but with an extra zing to it! You move your finger down to launch the spring/noodle-type character up and up and up until you reach various checkpoints, power-ups, etc. It's simple...yet more complex than Doodle Jump. It just brings a lot to the table and you should definitely check it out. (Also Special Thanks to the Developer for Providing Us with a Promo Code for this Game, Please Follow @SpringFlingGame on Twitter!) GET for $.99

Appload™ #5 - Tap Tap Revenge 3, Shrek Kart, Skee-Ball, & MORE!!!

Author: TapDatApp // Category:

Sorry for the minor delay between Apploads™ everybody but earlier we did post an Exclusive Look at Ngmoco's two new Blockbuster apps, so we hope you can forgive us ^^ Anyways, here's y'all's Appload™ #5 with a New Appload™ Logo!

  • Tap Tap Revenge 3 was recently released and takes a bit of a spin on the insanely popular series. For one, it isn't free unlike the two previous Tap Tap games, but it also has a lot of things the other two didn't. You can make an account, gain coins for points you score, use those coins to buy backgrounds and various clothing for your account's avatar, etc. The game also includes a really nice menu & layout that is totally fresh to the series. Unfortunately, not much gameplay or theme-wise has changed about the game. Not to mention the fact that even though you already paid $.99 to get the app in the first place, you still have to purchase some songs through DLC artist packs. There is at least 1 new free song almost every Thursday so this does make up for it slightly and there are (I believe) over 100 free songs to download from the start, although more than half of them aren't anything that great...Still, if you want to stay updated with the Tap Tap Revenge series and don't feel like paying $9.99 for EA's Rock Band app - GET
  • Scarecrow is a really fun new game by Ezone.com - The object of it is to 'Touch the screen to trigger an explosive and send Scarecrow skyward. Keep moving up by collecting corn and avoid the baddies by tilting your device left and right to steer'. This concept is pretty original and a lot of fun! Besides the fact that it is Plus+ Network enabled, there is not much else we can say about this game besides the fact that it is only $.99 and that you can try out the Lite version first to see if you like it or not - GET
  • Shrek Kart is Gameloft's spin on the popular Shrek franchise through Go-Karts galore! It's easy to say that Shrek Kart is a lot like the Mario Kart series in many aspects. The graphics (even on just iPhone 3G or iPod Touch 2nd Generation) are superb, the gameplay is fun although most of the power-ups and other small feature additions are repetitive and simplistic, and the character & stage choices are unlockable and variate (although we found most of the stages to lack a sense of good challenge, they are nicely detailed with art that is pleasurable to look at). Shrek Kart also has WiFi & Bluetooth Peer-to-Peer Races as an option, but no Global Online Racing option to be found. Overall, the game runs quite smoothly and provides hours of fun although it may eventually get boring or annoying due to the Menu Soundtrack...GET - **Current Sale: $.99 - Normal: $4.99**
  • Flying Pigs by Sobits is a great game for the iPhone & iPod Touch where you control a UFO and tilt your iDevice trying to avoid running into miscellaneous obstacles such as flying pigs that can cost you the loss of a life. The longer you stay in the air, the higher you score. It's a fantastic pick-up-&-play app and we definitely recommend it! We've spoken to the developers quite a few times now through Twitter and we even won a $20 iTunes Giftcard from them by being the first to score 2000 points on the game! Their prize helps us make all our app purchases possible, meaning we are able to get more premium apps to review so that you can stay even more in-the-know on the latest & greatest applications available for the iPhone/iTouch! Please give back by simply following the developers' Twitter account at @Sobits - GET for Only $.99
  • Skee-Ball by Freeverse is a great version of the popular Bowling game commonly played at Arcades. With charming 3D graphics, great physics, special scoring & ticket earning system, and Plus+ Network enabled Leaderboards, this game is simply a must have that you will be playing non-stop - GET for Only $.99
  • Aqua Globs is a game much like Flight Control, Harbor Master, and the Bait Master Mini-Game playable through Pocket God but with water blob-like creatures! You draw lines to connect globs, make them bigger & disappear, and avoid ones of opposing colors to cross paths. The game has been updated quite a few times now with multiple maps & various other 'aqua globs' added. It's not our favorite type of game, but you may like it - Take A BET for **Current Sale: $.99 - Normal $1.99** OR DON'T.
  • Ant Hill is a game we've been playing for awhile but just recently remembered that we had yet to review. In this game, you destroy ants...almost anyway you want! With constant updates/episodes like Pocket God, many new features and various ways to kill ants have been added like flamethrower, freeze ray, lasers, magnifying glass, and more! There are lots of other aspects you can control in Ant Hill such as how many ants are on the screen, how many of each color there are (red and black), and how aggressive the ants are. It's pretty funny and enjoyable to play so - GET for Only $.99
And that my friends is Appload™ #5, we hope you enjoyed it! Don't forget to follow the TDA Team on Twitter at @TapDatApp for instant updates frequently throughout each week!
